About the Irataka
Irataka prayer beads (伊良太加/最多角) are a special type of prayer beads used by Shugendo(修験道) practitioners and Yamabushi(山伏) during their training. Their distinguishing feature is that they consist of 108 main beads that are flattened polygonal (like abacus beads), which make a jingling sound when rubbed together during chanting.
About the Material
This product uses plum wood, shaved ebony wood, and striped ebony wood as the main beads.
Plum:These prayer beads are sturdy, and feature a lustrous brown hue that becomes more comfortable to the touch with age. Lightweight and durable, they are popular as a warm and cherished item that can be used for many years.
Shaved ebony:Compared to the usual varieties, the color is a dark gray and grayish-brown. It is a special type of bead.
Stripe ebony:It is characterized by black and brown stripes. It is extremely hard, and becomes shiny when polished.
