In Japan, Buddhists have Prayer beads (Juzu, Nenju). Kyoto is famous as a producing center of Prayer beads.Prayer beads are a traditional tool used to count the number of times a mantra is recited, breaths while meditating, counting prostrations, or the repetitions of a buddha's name.
This Prayer beads is Tendai's one. Tendai is a school of Mahayana Buddhism in Japan, a descendant of the Chinese Tiantai or Lotus Sutra school. A center of Japanese Tendai "Enryaku-ji temple" is on Mount Hiei, Northern Kyoto. It's also famous as UNESCO World Heritage Site.
