Kotan is a kind of Rosewood, which has a beautiful grain like a tiger stripe pattern.
It is a kind of Karagi that lives in tropical regions such as India and Sri Lanka.
Because the grain is beautiful and very high in decoration value, it is easy to process and elastic, but hard,it has been used for Buddhist wares, building materials and furniture since ancient times.
This is a one-handed rosary. Since it is an abbreviated rosary, it can be used by any sect.
In Japan, Buddhists have Prayer beads (Juzu, Nenju). Kyoto is famous as a producing center of Prayer beads.
Prayer beads are a traditional tool used to count the number of times a mantra is recited, breaths while meditating, counting prostrations, or the repetitions of a buddha's name.
