About kumihimo

Kumihimo is a Japanese word meaning "gathered threads" and it is a form of braid-making said to date back to the 6th century and to have been imported from China and the Korean peninsula. Patterns and techniques were trasmitted among the members of a family and kept secret. Kumihimo was widely used in Shinto rituals, as decoration in Buddhist temples, and as attire among the nobles of the Imperial Court. It was long used by the samurai for sword straps, armor, and horses.

In the Meiji period, following the decline of the samurai class, people began to use kumihimo as obijime to hold kimono's sash and draw attention to its fabric.

Kumihimo has appeared in the world-wide known animation movie "Your name" in which Mitsuha uses it to tie her hair, whereas Taki uses it as a bracelet.

I had purchased two of Kyoto Asahiya's standard Kumihimo bracelets in the past, which unfortunately broke due to no fault of her own (too small for my particular wrist). This one was a welcome replacement, is just as beautiful, and the added length of the metal chain is a great benefit. My wrist is about 16-17cm and the fit is just fine. The silk and colors she uses stand out really well in light.

I am a regular customer of Kyoto Asahiya's products and wear them always while playing Shakuhachi. I have not found better bracelets anywhere else. In the 2nd photo I am wearing the following of her bracelets:
-Skull Bead Boxwood (Tsuge)
-8mm Keyaki Wood
-7mm Hinoki Wood
-7mm Black Onyx Juzu

Thank you so much for your positive review.
We will continue to improve our products.
We hope to provide you with an even better experience next time.

Best regards,
Kyoto Asahiya

Beautiful

The bracelet was beautiful and very well made. My wrist is a bit bigger though so the double loop barely fits, but it works! Should consider making an XL version

Thank you for the review.
I'm sorry to hear that the wrist size is small.
I will consider making a big size.

Best regards,
Kyoto Asahiya
