There is a Sanskrit character （Fudo Myooh不動明王）carving on the head bead.

This rosary is a formal rosary of the Tiantai school of Buddhism. The Ohira size is typically used by men.

It uses shaved kokutan japanese black ebony beads。Compared to the usual varieties, the color is a dark gray and grayish-brown. It is a special type of bead.

Ebony is a dense black / brown hardwood, most commonly yielded by several different species in the genus Diospyros, which also contains the persimmons. Ebony is dense enough to sink in water. It is finely-textured and has a very smooth finish when polished, making it valuable as an ornamental wood. 

It's very fit for as a gift or souvenir.

In Japan, Buddhists have Prayer beads (Juzu, Nenju). Kyoto is famous as a producing center of Prayer beads.

Maintenance

Take off when you shower and before going to bed. The material is sensitive to chemicals and excessive sweat. We recommend you to take it off when doing sports and cleaning.Wipe with soft fabric.
