History and uses of tenugui
It is said that Tenugui were already in use during the Nara period(A.D.710-794). A Tenugui is a thin Japanese hand towel made of cotton. Tenugui has been a part of Japanese daily life for a long time . It can be used for anything - as a washcloth, dishcloth, headband, souvenir, decoration, or for wrapping items such as bottles. Most of Tenugui's edges are not sewn, because the Tenugui will dry out quicker and it helps to keep the Tenugui clean.
