About the wood

Black Banded ebony wood, originating from Sulawesi (formerly Celebes) in central Indonesia, this timber is one of the rarest and most expensive timbers available worldwide. It is characterized by a distinctly striped wood pattern, with a fairly light-colored strip running roughly on dark brown or black ground. The scarcity is doubled by the fact that trees do not grow greatly.

This is a one-handed prayer beads. It can be used by practitioners of any Buddhist school.

In Japan, Buddhists have Prayer beads (Juzu, Nenju). Kyoto is famous as a producing center of Prayer beads.

Prayer beads are a traditional tool used to count the number of times a mantra is recited, breaths while meditating, counting prostrations, or the repetitions of a buddha's name.
