Made in Kyoto, JAPAN

In Japan, Wrapping cloths have been a tradition (known as furoshiki).
They are a fabulous, zero waste way of wrapping anything from produce and wine bottles to clothes & gifts.

Hikizome is the type of dyeing.
At first Insert the end of the piece of fabric with a stretcher and stretch it with a stretcher to spread it out. Then, dye fabric with a Japanese brush called Hake.
It has the advantage of being able to dye a large area, but it's difficult to dye large area evenly.
Extensive experience and knowledge about dyeing are required.
The delicate dyeing technique of Hikizome hand-dye can make a very beautiful blurred pattern.

Silk is light and glossy, it has been used for luxury cloth.
The dyeability is also good, so it dyes very beautiful colors.
It is very smooth, soft and lightweight.

the four classic plants (orchid, chrysanthemum, plum, and bamboo)are designed on this Furoshiki.
The characteristics of the four plants, orchid, bamboo, chrysanthemum, and plum, are very similar to Kunshi (wise man), so it has become a representative design for literary paintings.
Orchids have a faint scent and elegance, and bamboo grows without dropping leaves even in the cold winter, and has a straight nature. Plums have the strength to bloom first in the early spring, and chrysanthemums bloom vividly in the cold late autumn.
The impression changes depending on which color side is wrapped on the top.

Furoshiki embraces the philosophy of eco-friendly living by challenging us on how many items we really need. This beautiful and ingenious art allows one object to have many uses simply by folding and tying the cloth in a different way.

While Japanese culture is not alone in using fabric wrapping, furoshiki has a distinctive style reflecting Japanese interest in ceremony, beauty, multi-functional objects and thoughtful detail in approach to everyday living.

Cloth wrapping has been used for over 1200 years in Japan and the word furoshiki came about during the Edo period (1603-1868) when the cloths were commonly used in bath houses to wrap clothes and as a bath mat. The word furoshiki means 'bath spread'.

Over time, Japanese developed a multitude of uses and patterns that are both elegant and functional. One furoshiki cloth can be used for :
wrapping a gift
a bag for shopping
decorating a handbag
a picnic hamper
a tablecloth
household decor
a scarf, belt or bandana
wrapping clothes when travelling
