About lignum vitae
Lignum vitae comes from Latin and means "tree of life" or "wood of life" because of its wide range of medicinal uses. This wood is one of the heaviest and the hardest and its durability makes it perfect for a multiplicity of uses. It has the feature of changing color to a deeper green.
About Tendai
This Prayer beads is Tendai's one. Tendai is a school of Mahayana Buddhism in Japan, a descendant of the Chinese Tiantai or Lotus Sutra school. A center of Japanese Tendai "Enryaku-ji temple" is on Mount Hiei, Northern Kyoto. It's also famous as UNESCO World Heritage Site.
In Japan, Buddhists have Prayer beads (Juzu, Nenju). Kyoto is famous as a producing center of Prayer beads.
Prayer beads are a traditional tool used to count the number of times a mantra is recited, breaths while meditating, counting prostrations, or the repetitions of a buddha's name.
