About Ebony wood
Black Banded ebony wood originates from Sulawesi (formerly Celebes) in central Indonesia, its timber is one of the rarest and most expensive available worldwide. It is characterized by a distinctly striped wood pattern, with a fairly light-colored strip running roughly on dark brown or black ground.

About juzu
In Japan, Buddhists have Prayer beads (Juzu, Nenju). Kyoto is a famous producing center of Prayer beads.

Prayer beads are a traditional tool used to count the number of times a mantra is recited, the breaths while meditating, the prostrations, the repetitions of a buddha's name.

This Prayer beads is Tendai's one. Tendai is a school of Mahayana Buddhism in Japan, a descendant of the Chinese Tiantai or Lotus Sutra school. A center of Japanese Tendai "Enryaku-ji temple" is on Mount Hiei, Northern Kyoto, recognised as UNESCO World Heritage Site.
